Game Court Construction: How It’s Built

As a family owned and operated company, we at Casa Courts understand “the why” behind promoting an active and fun lifestyle with kids and friends. We’ve seen firsthand that installing a game court in your backyard or community space can be a great way to bring a professional touch to your practice space.

But how does it happen?! While bringing a court to fruition is no small task, we’ve broken down the process to help you understand what to expect – we don’t like surprises any more than you! Here’s how we get from initial planning to those first joyous moments of play.

  1. Design & Layout. The first step in planning your court is assessing the available space in your yard or designated area, taking into account desired playing area and buffer zones. A natural way to start is by deciding which sports the court will accommodate, as this will dictate dimensions, e.g., pickleball with half court basketball.
  2. Concrete Pad. The base for most game courts is a concrete pad, although it’s possible to install court tiles over decomposed granite. In either case, there is typically some excavation or “scrape” involved to prepare the area. Once you have a level foundation, the concrete is poured.
  3. Surfacing. There are two main types of surfacing: painted concrete and modular tiles. Painted concrete is typically less expensive, whereas modular tiles are becoming popular for shock absorption. If you’re incorporating pickleball and want a more professional bounce, painted concrete is likely the best solution.
  4. Accessories. Complete your court by installing the relevant poles, nets, or hoops. For night play, add lighting. Where appropriate, install fencing to keep the ball from running away. If you’re left with areas around the court that need to be landscaped, consider artificial turf or other options conducive to the environment.

From start to finish, you’re looking at 20-40 days of construction, on top of the time it takes to get through Design & Layout.

We must confess this isn’t any ordinary construction project, but it’s a rewarding experience that can transform your outdoor space. Casa Courts would be honored to build a professional grade court that brings years of fun and fitness to your community or backyard. Contact us today for a free consultation and estimate!
